Welcome!

Welcome to MVNU’s Chaplain’s blog!

Mount Vernon Nazarene University seeks to motivate each student to make a contribution to Christian service through chapel and other worship services, missions abroad, through classroom attitudes, through residence hall devotional experiences, and through informal personal contacts.

Community service is fundamental at MVNU. Help those in need and learn about yourself at the same time. Our students minister to others through a variety of organizations locally and around the world. It’s our motto in action. “To seek to learn is to seek to serve.”

MVNU’s chaplain, Scott Peterson, will be introducing himself to the MVNU community in the days ahead, through this blog.

Please pray for Scott, Katie, Cody and Zachary as they make this transition to Mount Vernon. You can leave them welcome comments in this blog as well.

Good Afternoon!
I just received the news that you have accepted the postition of Chaplain. I am really looking forward to meeting you. I realize it will be hard leaving beautiful Califonia but we have plenty of blue skies and green grass.

God chose MVNU and now He has led us to you. He does have great plans for all of us together. Have a great rest of the week!
I look forward to meeting you.
Karen:)

Scott, I smiled when Dr. Martin told me you were coming to be MVNU’s chaplain. What a great choice for us! May a good strong tailwind be at your back as you make the move east. In case the President did not tell you, it is a REQUIREMENT that you become involved in new student recruitment efforts ☻ so we are making plans already for that! It will be fun to partner with you for spiritual development of our students as a primary factor in enrollment growth. Welcome aboard!

Scott,
When I visited San Diego this spring I called my wife and asked her to remind me why we live in the middle of Ohio. Ha! Actually it’s not bad. I was just taken back by the palm trees and the seemingly perfect weather. In that moment of reflection we were both reminded of our purpose and desire for being at MVNU. We love it here and trust that you and your family will as well. I look forward to talking with you soon.
Peace,

We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you as you make this transistion to Mount Vernon. God has blessed us in so many ways in our ministry in this community and know he will do the same for you! It is incredible to think of how you will be involved as God writes the next part of His story at MVNU.

Scott,

I heard from two people within 10 minutes about “the announcement”. We’re just SO thrilled for MVNU and feel it is a PERFECT fit for you. Who would have imagined, as kids (nearly 30 years ago now- ah!), what God would have in store for you? Having one nearly old enough for college now, I would be at ease knowing you were there to guide him. I’ll have yall on my prayer list as you and the family make the transition. I hope we all get to see each other soon.

Hey Scott!

Welcome to our MVNU family! I trust that along with the changes in weather and wardrobe, you and your family will find many other great things about our little community. I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you. I hear that you will be meeting with us during our July chapel service, I hope to talk with you then. Stop by Student Development and visit us when you get here…it’s the best office on campus as far as I’m concerned ;)

Good luck with your move and I’ll see you soon.

Scott,

I am so excited to see how God is going to use you in this campus community! A couple of words to get familiar with around here: Fiesta Mexicana, Fredericktown Tomato Show, and Cornhole..ha. Anyhow, we are praying for you!

Scott- I have no doubt you are following God’s direction for your life and you will make an excellent campus minister! Best wishes to you and your family in this new chapter, and when you are freezing this winter, consider a trip back to sunny, warm San Diego!

Scott,
The students of MVNU are very excited to meet you and see why God has brought you to MVNU to experience this journey with us. I hope that you have already begun preparing for an incredible year to enter into the MVNU campus community and family. I have been thinking and praying for you as we anxiously waited to hear from Dr. Martin about the recent selections. I look forward to meeting you in the near future and anticipate the excitement that comes with a transitional year and new faces on our campus.
